FRiday Reports
It hard to believe that graduation is in 19 days! Fortunately, we will have Saturday school tomorrow from 9-12 for those that need extra time to get their classes completed. Don't forget that graduation rehearsal is May 31, 2:30 at the middle school. Students will receive their caps and gowns at that time.
Happy Friday the 13th! If you would like for your child to return next year, please sign up for a end of the year conference: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sh3EDDgpk-vAIV27KvXdH6ZcXUAzgErFhNTZQtx_bXU/edit#gid=7 All students MUST have a conference to determine placement for the fall semester. Summer school options will be discussed at that time. Due to the numerous activities this week (piano concert, boat trip, and Sherman Lake) there will not be progress reports. We will have them next week. On Monday, 1:00pm, Trooper Angelo will be speaking about consequences of sexting. Parents are invited to attend this presentation. Parents are also invited to travel with us on Wednesday to the Wolfe Lake Fish Hatchery as we release our salmon into the wild. Lunch will be provided for students but not guests. Friday finds our "techies" teaching electronics at the Richland Area Community Center and students visiting Sherman Lake. As you can see, next week will be on the busy side. In case you were wondering, all students are expected to attend Gateway until the end of the school year. If classes are finished, we will have other activities to keep them busy. The last day of school is June 15th (half day). As you know, all students receive counseling on a weekly basis. If you would like for your child to continue meeting with Dennis, please contact him and make arrangements. Hope you all have a good weekend.

The conference schedule sign up is now live. All students who are returning MUST have a sit-down conference. If none of the day/times work for you, let me know and we will figure something out. Please see the note on the bottom of the sign up sheet.
Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Sh3EDDgpk-vAIV27KvXdH6ZcXUAzgErFhNTZQtx_bXU/edit#gid=7 Remember, students are accessed by the amount of credit they have earned, their attitude and attendance. Students that have multiple absences are in danger of not returning. Fortunately, there is still time to improve. Next Monday (9th) students will have the opportunity to attend a classical piano performance at the Chenery. We will be leaving at 9:15. Parents are welcome to attend. On the 11th, students will be doing science experiments on Lake Michigan. This will be an all day event as we are traveling to Muskegon. Unfortunately, parents are not invited as we are limited by space. Guess what? Ground breaking for the new building is on May 16th!! I don't know when we will be moving into it, but at least we're breaking ground. May 18th finds us releasing the salmon that we've raised. We will be leaving Gateway at 8:30 for the Wolfe Lake Fish Hatchery. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend. Please let me know by May 16th if you will be joining us. Graduation is fast approaching! Don't forget, June 1, 7pm at the middle school. It will be a great night. This afternoon we all went to the Sherman Lake YMCA (see pictures below). It was great to see all of the kids (and Mrs Wilga) have fun. Today was the first time the kids were able to participate in a yoga session. I hear that it's harder than it looks :)
Progress reports were given to students today. Don't be alarmed if your child's doesn't look as normal. Many of us went to clean up the Richland Cemetery on Wednesday in addition we had a half day yesterday. Next week we have an early release on Wednesday and students are dismissed at 12:50. Also on Wednesday, students that missed taking the WorkKeys test will be retaking it on that day. Don't forget that graduation is June 1, 7:00pm. It will be a great night. Check out our website for more information and pictures of our latest activities. SAT, PSAT, Work Keys, and MME testing is done!! Now we can get back to normal.
This Thursday is a half day and students are dismissed at 10:45. Students that would like to stay until 2:00 are welcome to but will need to provide their own transportation and lunch. We will have end of the year conferences in May that will determine placement for next year. These conferences will be the first week of May and I will send a link in April so that you can sign up. All students who wish to return MUST reenroll each year and meet qualifications. Remember that graduation is June 1st, at the Gull Lake Middle School, 7pm. Rehearsal is the day before (at the middle school) at 2:30. Students will be given caps and gowns at that time. Students will be responsible for their own transportation home. I still need baby pictures from a few students and would like to have them at the beginning of next week. Please invite as many family and friends as you would like...the more the merrier!!! We are offering Saturday school tomorrow, 9-12, if we have four students who will commit by 2:00 today to come. Currently, we do not have any interest. We will offer Saturday schools on April 16, 23, 30 and May 6 if we have enough students signed up. As the weather becomes warmer it's normal for students to lighter weight clothing....which is fine as long as they are dressed appropriately for school. This means straps must be at least two fingers wide and shorts needs to be fingertip length. As a mom of girls, I understand how difficult it is to find appropriate clothing that doesn't look like "something moms would wear". We will use the air conditioner but I cannot please everyone and some kids will be hot while others complain they are cold. It would be prudent for student to dress in layers or bring a blanket on the days they might get cold. Progress reports were sent home today. Mrs. Palmatier's last official day is Monday. She will be here off and on as she is able. The students have been extremely supportive by making meals, writing cards, and giving gifts. I am proud of the way they have rallied around her. The school will not be the same without her, and I will have a heavy heart when I no longer will see her on a daily basis. If any of you would like to send a note of encouragement, the school address is 11775 East D Ave, Richland 49083 or email [email protected] I hope you all have a great weekend....it looks like a few days of great weather! Please continue to encourage your child to stay focused and get work done. Good Friday...It really is Good Friday, isn't it!!
