Gateway students took advantage of a warm November day to plant a flowering crabapple tree in front of the school. The tree planting was a response to the October visit from Dr. Nalini Nadkarni and her call to actively renew this resource. Junior Daemon Officer said after her presentation that each student should plant a tree in the school yard, today we started with one! After consulting with Bruce and Sherri Snyder from Gull Lake Landscaping, students chose between a river birch or crabapple after evaluating the positive qualities of each. Students chose the crabapple by text vote because of the flowers in the spring and the food it can offer to wildlife. Bruce Snyder delivered the tree and helped students to understand the many attributes of trees in landscaping and the prospects of working in the landscaping industry. He then directed student helpers in the planting of our tree. We could not have asked for a better morning! Thank you Dr. Nalini and Gull Lake Landscaping!
