As part of our commitment to community service, Gateway students travelled to the Southwest Michigan SPCA. Our students spend time entertaining the cats and walking the dogs. This is the third year of our partnership with the SPCA Gateway Academy is partnering again with the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Gateway students visit the Gospel Mission each month. While they are at the Mission, our students help prepare lunch, serve lunch and help clean up. A big thank you to Cierra Partick of Michigan Rehabilitation Services who came to visit Gateway today. She discussed how MRS can benefit our students with job placement and training services. We are looking forward to partnering with Ms. Partick on a regular basis.

As part of our commitment to learning life skills, Gateway Academy hosted Mrs. Kim Sinclair who taught our students basic sewing skills. From threading a needle to sewing on a button, Mrs. Sinclair patiently worked with our students, untangling thread and guiding stitches. Many thanks to our guest for her help! Today, Deputy Adam Kelm, the Gull Lake Community Schools resource officer came to visit. He discussed how he became an officer, what he likes and doesn't like about his job, and any topics of interest to our students. Officer Adam has been very helpful to the students and staff of Gateway Academy and truly appreciate all that he does.
Today we had visitors from the Sherman Lake YMCA come to visit. We will be visiting the Y once a week with the goal of improving both physical and mental health. Thank you to the Y and our generous sponsor for making this happen for us.
