This past week at Gateway Academy was not “normal.” All students were very involved with the traveling Vietnam War memorial that is being hosted by the high school through the end of this weekend. They helped assemble 150 flags, sort bracelets for all district students, set up the actual memorial and ceremony, attend the ceremony as spectators, and visit the memorial as community members.
Our students worked hard and received high praise from all community members and veterans with whom they interacted! Unfortunately, it is hard to show this in weekly progress reports. Since all students spent at least one day helping on this project, that has been factored into the report. If your student spent more than a day on this project, this may be the reason why they have not completed as much school work this week.
We promise to have more “normal” weeks as we approach the holiday season. In the meantime, check out some of the photos from this special project under the “community service” page of this website. Also, I encourage you to ask your student about his/her involvement with the memorial, and maybe join them for one more visit to it this weekend.
